Next Monday I have to turn in a porfolio of my past work to UCSC as a requisite for acceptance into the art program. Scary! The slideshow is of the works I've compiled for evaluation. ReplyDeleteImage 2 seems a little dark, at least on my screen. The rest look lovely.
I am wondering how you picked the order of the slideshow....it feels kinda jumpy and I think if it was re-ordered with a "storyline" of sorts, in media, color and/or subjects, it would flow. (The biker photo was particularly jarring when it appeared, yet it could be a great pacing image when put in the right place.) What is an enticing Intro image, what sequencing contains humor, pathos, etc? What is a Grand Finale image? A wink at the end?
Are there guidelines for what UCSC wants to see? How many? Some of everything? More of what you think you will specialize in? I am just curious and want to be helpful.

ReplyDeleteMy original grouping was done in terms of media. I was using the color blue as a segue from the 3D to the motorcycle picture, but I also felt like that didn't work all that well. I've reorganized again to follow a mental storyline with media grouping, I hope it works better.
UCSC doesn't really give very clear guidelines in terms of what should be submitted. The only thing they do suggest is submitting work in the media that their studio programs focus on. eg. drawing, painting, photography, sculpture/3D, and printmaking.
